Losing weight can be a challenging thing. Especially when you are older. Even more challenging can be keeping the weight off once you lose it. When my clients are working hard on changing their eating habits, as not to gain their weight back, I also stress the importance of maintaining muscle. Losing weight fast, without exercise, means losing muscle as well as fat, and can be a sure way to gain that weight back. Muscle loss is not what you want, fat-loss is the goal, so maintaining muscle is key. If you strength train as you are losing weight you will maintain your muscle mass and in turn keep your metabolism up. Increased metabolism is going to keep burning that fat!
Of course you want to avoid those bad eating habits that can cause weight gain in the first place. Emotional eating, processed foods, certain medications and excess sugar can sabotage your weight-loss. Don’t let all that hard work go to waste! Make sure you workout as you are dropping those pounds, so you can maintain your weight-loss for life!
