High Protein Snack For Pets And Their People

July 25, 2023

Two dogs looking in awe at a big platter of homemade beef jerky.

Give Me The Jerky You Jerky!!
I think most of my friends and clients know I won’t give my animals anything I would not eat! One of those things is beef jerky!  Yes they eat raw but I give them snacks like beef jerky.  Dehydrated beef with a little bit of Celtic sea salt. A treat for them and for Mom! A great protein snack without all the chemicals and preservatives.
I bought a really nice dehydrator because If I run out of Jerky I would be in big trouble!  As you can see on their faces this treat is a total hit 🙂 I have the Excaliber 9 tray electric dehydrator. You can do fruit as well! I love it and so do my pets:)  I Try to use grass-fed beef. I slice it, or have it sliced at 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch slices and cut into long strips.  I set it in my dehydrator for about 4 hours and then cut it into small pieces.  I store some in the freezer to keep it fresh and take out what I need for about a week.  There are no preservatives so they cannot be left out for long.
You can also use your oven to dehydrate jerky but I love this big Excalibur and my dogs really appreciate it!
Another awesome reason I make Jerky is it’s a great snack for us!  A healthy protein snack without all the preservatives of store-bought jerky and beef sticks.  If you don’t want to make your own there are companies that make them a bit healthier.  Read labels and stay away from preservatives when you can.  That should go for you and your pets!
